DEMaP Progress and Opportunities event

The DEMaP Progress and Opportunities event was held at City Hall on Friday 11th June. Over 70 delegates attended the event, with 27 London Boroughs represented as well as the Energy Saving Trust, Carbon Trust and DECC. An overview of government support for Decentralised Energy (DE) was provided by Robert Tudway from LDA, who is working closely with DECC and DCLG. Ross Hudson from the GLA provided an insight into the Mayor’s commitment to DE through the updated London Plan and Climate Change Mitigation and Energy Strategy.

A general introduction to DEMaP progress over the last six months was presented by the DEMaP Programme Manager, Paula Kirk.   Delegates received an insight into the practicalities and benefits of DEMaP through presentation from three borough officers already involved in the programme. Bindi Patel from LB Lambeth, Lewis Stevens from LB Haringey and Harold Garner from LB Camden presented on their experiences of the DEMaP programme and how the support they received has enabled them to progress the DE agenda within their borough and realised practical and worthwhile outcomes. The event finished off with a workshop on delivery vehicles for DE projects and the role of local authorities in these, including options for funding and financing as well as identifying areas of risk and uncertainty.

This workshop informed the service provision for boroughs receiving Phase 3 support through the DEMaP programme, as well as letting those boroughs at Phases 1 and 2 know what is in store when they reach the delivery stage!
